When mob boss GONG Sang-doo is hospitalized with injuries from a fight, CHAE Hee-ju, a third resident, becomes his doctor. His head is completely covered with bandage, she assumes he's a tough, brutal guy. But when the bandages are removed, they surprise his gentle eyes and his mild nature. Sang-doo is also fascinated by Hee-ju's self-confidence and refusal to appeal to anyone. Sang-doo decides to win her heart and buy her expensive cars and gifts. Eventually he discovers that she wants him to be only himself. The two fall in love and spend more time together. However, Sang-doo soon realizes that Hee-ju is endangered by their relationship, and therefore tries in vain to end it. When a power struggle leads him to kill a subordinate who is accused by his loyal friend, Sang-doo decides to surrender himself. The two lovers meet for the last time in an empty church and promise their hearts.
