A melodrama about the life of Yoon Shim Dok, a modern woman and pioneer of free love in the 1920s, drowning in the waters of the Korea Strait. Yoon Shim Dok is a poor girl who studies vocal music at the University of Tokyo with the help of a government scholarship. Hong Nan Pa, a promising student specializing in composition, brings her to concerts and theaters. He feels abused by her though because he is unable to gain the closeness he desires. Although she sees him as a close friend, she devotes herself entirely to art. Korean students studying in Japan are planning a performance tour to Korea during their summer vacation to raise money for the Korean independence movement. Among them is Kim Woo Jin, a student of English literature at Waseda University. Hong Nan Pa introduces Kim Yoon Shim Dok. They are meant to get to know each other.
