Geology professor Goh Jin Ha is on his way to Yan Bian China to give a lecture at the university.
Jin Ha loses himself in reverie as he looks out the window at the breathtaking sight of Mt Baek-du. The beautiful scenery takes him back to his youth as he fought the Liberation Army in Manchu. In Yan Bian he meets his army colleague Kil Woo and hears that shocking news about his old flame, Lalee Chung and her difficult pregnancy and childbirth. In all those years he had had no idea that Lalee, his lover, wife, and former savior, had given birth to her son. After a successful lecture series at Yan Bian University, Jin Ha goes in search of his wife and son. All these years later he is scared and excited to see his old love and his son. With the help of the Korean Chinese journalist Miran, Jin Ha scours the area for a look at his family. He finally finds his son Jin Chung, but is cruelly rejected by Jin. Jin can not forgive his father, who in his opinion has left his wife and son.
