On a day when sewing workers in Cambodia got up, a bullet hit the head of a 21-year-old worker in January 2014. This was the answer given to those who raised votes and fought for their rights as they wanted to be paid for their work. Low pay, labor exploitation and bloody crackdown: the words that filled the Cheonggyecheon market in Korea in the 1970s and we wanted to forget are now hovers over Southeast Asia.
Daughters of former workers are now contract workers or emotional workers such as call center leaders, transportation teams, and supermarket employees. With the advent of new services, digitization and the high-tech industry, working conditions seem to have improved. Why do these workers still have to endure hardship and a poor life?
"Factory Complex" is a film about the lives of workers across Asia, mixing interviews with poetic images.
