Chul Ho and his wife live in North Korea. They are followers of a church that is strictly forbidden in their country. When their connections to the church are discovered, they are sent to a labor camp. Chul Ho can survive, but his wife dies. Chul Ho can not shake off the guilt he has over his wife's death, so he goes back to his hometown the first time in two years to keep a promise he made to his wife. There, Chul Ho decides to move to South Korea with other church members in his village.
