It is the end of 1598, shortly before the Battle of Noryang, the last confrontation of the Imjin War. The Japanese invasion team's renown forces are desperate to go home but, for personal reasons, are forced to defeat their biggest opponent, Admiral Yi Sun-shin, once and for all. Self-employed Ming generals and Joseon officials also fear Yi's growing popularity and its impact on her personal power base. By the way, these combine ambitions Fan King Seonjos paranoia and eventually make him fear that Yi might come to his throne, and after a series of what he calls high treason, he decides to have Yi arrested.
Yi, on the other hand, is determined to teach the Japanese a lesson in the atrocities they have committed against the Korean people, and despite instructions to remain calm while the Japanese are to move out without bloodshed, he gathers his naval forces and prepares for them the upcoming battle. The battle begins and the Japanese get a heavy blow, but Yi is mortally wounded by a bullet of arquebuse. While he is dying, the plot retraces important stages in Yi's life, from childhood to military career, shame from the king, and his reinstatement back into the battle of Noryang, where he succumbed to his wound as well as his victory explained.
