Hyunhaetan Marriage War is a coproduction between South Korea and Japan. Dae-cheon and Takako are lovers who decide to marry. However, Dae-cheon's father, a captain of fishing boats, displeases the Japanese, while Takaka's father has an unfavorable opinion of Korea. Dae-cheon teaches Takako how to speak with a heavy Korean accent and asks her to limit what she says to his father to just four words. He then introduces himself Takako to his father under the name "Choi Do-ja", which is a maiden name in Korea. Believing that Takako is a Korean, his father endorses her marriage.
